About Isla Holbox, Mexico
If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind the best possible way, Holbox island is the perfect place. This island has an area of 42 kilometers (26 mi) and all the streets are of white sand, so in Holbox you’ll see very few cars and many golf carts used as transportation. This makes this destination much quieter, away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
Holbox is famous for being a sanctuary to thousands of species, highlighting the whale shark, the biggest fish that can reach a length of 12 meters (39.3 ft). From mid-May until mid-September, these extraordinary creatures visit the coast of Holbox and thanks to their harmless nature, it is possible to swim with them and closely admire their enormous size.
The beaches of Holbox are very quiet, with white sand and crystal clear waters, making them ideal for the practice of windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking. During your stay at Holbox, you can make an excursion to the Bird Island, which serves as a refuge for 140 species of birds, including pelicans, flamingos and herons. It is not allowed to disembark, but there are two viewpoints from which you can observe these birds in their natural habitat. You can also enjoy a horseback ride at Passion Island or visit the Yalahau Lagoon, known for its hot springs that flow along the mangroves. This lagoon is the main source of drinking water of Isla Holbox and there you can observe crocodiles and a variety of fish.
