Typical food of Sacramento, United States
Sacramento offers American and international specialties in restaurants with different styles. You can find from modern and elegant restaurants in downtown, to casual and traditional places in Old Sacramento
Sacramento combines the modernity of being the capital of a state such as California and the historical tradition of its old neighborhoods. Dishes of American and international cuisine are served throughout the city, but the scenarios vary according to the location. In Old Sacramento you can find restaurants set in the old west where you will feel like in a movie scene. In this area, visit The Firehouse restaurant and savor dishes such as veal carpaccio, Dungeness crab cake, marinated rib eye sandwich, or the Steakhouse Burger with caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms served in a brioche-type bread.
For a different and modern dining experience, head to The Kitchen restaurant (in the eastern part of Sacramento), where you will find American and international dishes in a performance-style open kitchen. The menu is ever-changing, so it is convenient to figure out what they will serve on the day you go. Due to the high demand, reservation is required in advance (about two weeks before, according to date and season).

What to bring by season
Sacramento has a Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 15 °C (59 °F). Summer (May to September) is warm, and temperature may reach 30 °C (86 °F), although the apparent temperature is lower due to the fresh breezes from San Francisco Bay. During this season, we recommend packing cotton and denim clothes, which are comfortable and practical. You can also include a light sweater to wear in the mornings and evenings.
In winter (December to February) temperatures may drop to 4 °C (39 °F), and due to the humidity, rains can be accompanied by hail. If you visit Sacramento in this season, we suggest packing a thick jacket and non-slid waterproof shoes.
Sacramento is the capital city of California and is located in the northern part of the state. In the beginning, its main activities consisted of agriculture and commerce, thanks to the use of the steam machine and its location on the banks of the American River and the Sacramento River. Sacramento currently has a unique historical legacy that is combined with a tourism infrastructure: hotels, interesting museums, and entertainment centers.
Take a trip to the past in Old Sacramento, a historic neighborhood on the banks of the river that dates back to the year 1800. Here you can see ancient mansions, buildings that keep great stories of the Old West, and a shopping area; and take tours in steam train. Visit Governor's Mansion, an old Victorian-style building that served as home for the 13 governors of California from 1903 to 1967.
To learn more about the past, visit the California State Capital Museum and see objects, murals, and photographs from the history of the state. Other sites that you can visit are the California State Railroad Museum, where you can learn interesting details about these machines, and the California Automobile Museum, which displays around 150 stunning models from different periods (from commercial cars up to luxurious Lamborghinis).
For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the city has parks and trails for biking, including the American River Bicycle Trail. At the American River and the Sacramento River you can practice canoeing. If you are travelling with children, visit Sacramento Zoo, home to more than 600 animals, or Funderland, a theme park within an atmosphere of old Sacramento with rides for kids. Another place for kids is Fairytale Town, a park with playgrounds, scenes from fairy tales, and green areas for family recreation.
Downtown is the modern part of Sacramento, with contemporary-style buildings and sites such as Sacramento Downtown Plaza.
